Wasit University holds workshop on religious extremism and its effects on Iraqi society
Under the slogan "Reducing violent extremism leading to terrorism", the English Department of the Faculty of Education for the Humanities at Wasit University, in collaboration with Mosul University and the Cultural House, held a workshop entitled "Religious extremism and its effects on Iraqi society", the workshop aimed to uncover the subject of religious extremism and its roots, know its causes and its derivatives, which are motivated by terrorism and violence, and to know its very important causes to identify the treatment and solutions necessary to eliminate and reduce it. The workshop, moderated by Dr. Afrah Hamid Al-Mafaraji and presented by a number of professors, included discussing religious extremism as one of the biggest crises faced by The Arab society in general and Iraqi society in particular, where it cannot be limited to a particular destination, group or organization, as well as addressing its different aspects and how dangerous it is to society if it is not confronted and eliminated by all means. The workshop recommended calling for the control of religious discourse and consensus among religious institutions on a clear and moderate discourse that rejects violence and extremism, and the promotion of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, which is the basis of civil peace through the state's provision of diversity by appropriate legislation, in addition to employing voluntary campaigns carried out by civil society.
