The College of Veterinary Medicine at Wasit University organized a workshop titled “Principles of Occupational Safety in Handling Electrical Loads and Home Wiring.”

The workshop, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ziyad Salman Ouda, aimed to promote a culture of occupational safety when dealing with electrical devices, raise awareness about the risks associated with faulty home wiring, and enhance preventive measures against electrical accidents in both workplace and domestic environments.

The session focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of electrical safety principles, including proper handling of electrical loads and wiring, identifying common hazards, and applying safe testing and connection methods for electrical systems in laboratories and buildings. The workshop combined theoretical and practical components to equip trainees with hands-on skills that can be directly applied in real-life situations.

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, emphasizing the importance of trainees’ ability to identify sources of electrical hazards in loads and wiring, use personal protective equipment while working, and perform safe and correct electrical connections. Participants were also trained on testing and inspecting wires and circuits before operation, implementing emergency procedures in case of electric shock or fire, and fostering a safety-oriented mindset to strengthen the culture of occupational safety in the workplace.
