Wasit University Organizes Scientific Workshop on the Mechanism of External Examiners
The Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at Wasit University organized a scientific workshop entitled “Mechanism of External Examiners.” The session was led by the University Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sabeih Lafta Farhan, and the Director of the Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Luma Abdul Munaf, with the participation of several assistant deans for scientific affairs and heads of academic departments whose programs have been nominated for implementation of the external examiner system.
The workshop aimed to highlight the adopted mechanisms governing the role of the external examiner, the objectives of the evaluation visit, and the vital role they play in reviewing and assessing academic programs—primarily through benchmarking against internationally recognized curricula. This initiative aligns with the university’s vision of enhancing academic quality and adopting benchmarking practices as a strategic tool for improving learning outcomes and advancing educational performance.
The workshop featured rich discussions and active engagement, helping to clarify the responsibilities assigned to external examiners and the importance of their feedback in elevating the quality of academic programs.
This initiative is closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
By incorporating external expertise and fostering collaboration with academic evaluators beyond institutional borders, the university is strengthening international academic partnerships and promoting knowledge exchange. Such efforts contribute to a more transparent, accountable, and globally connected higher education system that supports sustainable academic development.
