The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, announced the establishment of a new public university in Wasit, aiming to support the developmental needs of the provinces and enhance their educational environments and specialized programs.

This announcement came during his speech at the opening of the First Scientific Forum in Wasit province. The Minister explained that the ministry has provided all the studied prerequisites to address the developmental needs of all Iraqi provinces and to strengthen their educational environments. He also pointed out the establishment of over a hundred university formations, including universities, colleges, departments, branches, and institutes. In addition, priority has been given to the specialties and programs that the community aspires to in medical, engineering, technical, pure sciences, agricultural, veterinary, administrative, economic, humanitarian, and social fields.

He further added that this focus required integrating workspaces and coordinating with provincial officials, local governments, and councils to tackle challenges and pave the way for university development, enabling them to achieve their goals over more than two years of ministerial responsibility.

On his part, the Governor of Wasit, Dr. Mohammed Jameel Al-Miyahi, emphasized during his speech at the forum that higher education in Iraq is going through a distinguished phase. He noted that Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi is a pioneer in achievements, particularly in internationalizing education and attracting international students through the “Study in Iraq” program. Dr. Abbas Lefta Al-Aqabi, the President of Wasit University, also highlighted the importance of the forum and the role of the university in achieving developmental goals.

The First Scientific Forum in Wasit includes scientific and research sessions that highlight the social and economic life of Wasit throughout historical periods, as well as its contributions to translation, culture, literature, and its most notable scholars and celebrities.
