Towards Clean and Sustainable Energy: Wasit University’s College of Administration and Economics Discusses Solar Energy Challenges and Solutions
As part of its efforts to support Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, the College of Administration and Economics at Wasit University organized a scientific symposium titled “Solar Energy: Challenges and Solutions”, in collaboration with the college’s Sustainable Development Unit.
The symposium aimed to shed light on the current status and future prospects of solar energy in Iraq, as well as to explore the technical, economic, and administrative obstacles hindering the development of solar power stations. The lecture was delivered by Eng. Hussam Al-Haboubi, Director of Future Systems for Technical Solutions, who presented a range of proposed solutions to expand reliance on renewable energy, especially in light of Iraq’s pressing environmental and economic challenges.
Al-Haboubi emphasized the importance of integrating solar energy across all sectors, particularly in academic and economic institutions, and called for enhanced partnerships between the public and private sectors to accelerate the transition toward clean energy.
The symposium was attended by several key government officials from Wasit Governorate, including the Director of Wasit Investment Commission, the Head of the Wasit Chamber of Commerce, and the Director of Wasit Agriculture Department, alongside a large group of faculty members and students—reflecting growing local interest in adopting sustainable energy policies.
This initiative aligns with Wasit University’s broader commitment to supporting sustainable development pathways and raising awareness of renewable energy as a strategic pillar for a more stable and sustainable future.
