University of Wasit Implements Rainwater Drainage Project to Tigris River
Under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Uqabi, President of the University of Wasit, and the on-site follow-up of Dr. Haider Kareem Masraa, Director of the Reconstruction and Projects Department, the university has commenced the implementation of a rainwater drainage project to redirect stormwater from the campus to the Tigris River.
The project aims to address the recurring problem of rainwater accumulation within the university campus during the winter season. It includes the construction of a drainage network extending from the campus, passing through the university’s corniche, and ultimately reaching the Tigris River.
Engineer Istabraq Al-Quraishi explained that the project, which began three weeks ago, is being executed in two phases:
Phase One involves casting and installing manholes.
Phase Two includes laying two pipelines—one behind the College of Education for Human Sciences and the other behind the College of Medicine—running alongside the university corniche and continuing to the riverbank.
Al-Quraishi added that the engineering teams are working continuously, day and night, including during official holidays, to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
