As part of its ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Department of English at the College of Education for Human Sciences, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at Wasit University, organized a specialized training course titled:
“Sustainability and Communication: The Role of English in Addressing Environmental Challenges,”
which took place from April 20 to 24, 2025, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members from the English Department.

The course was inaugurated with notable official attendance, including Professor Dr. Sabeh Lafta, Assistant President of the University, Assistant Professor Dr. Ammar Dawood, Director of the Planning Unit, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Arrak, Dean of the College, and Professor Dr. Hashem Al-Husseini, Head of the English Department.

The course focused on the intersection between language and education on one hand, and environmental, social, and economic sustainability on the other. Through a series of lectures, it explored how English language topics can be directly linked to the SDGs. Key sessions included:
