The President of Wasit University, Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi, and the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Assistant Professor Dr. Hakim Sultan Al-Rikabi, participated in the 5th Baghdad International Water Conference, held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Shia\u2019 Al-Sudani, and organized by the Ministry of Water Resources under the theme: “Water and Technology\u2026 A Partnership for Development.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This participation comes as part of the university\u2019s ongoing commitment to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\u2014particularly Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation\u2014through discussions on innovative technological solutions for water resource management, advancements in irrigation systems, and addressing the pressing challenges of water scarcity and climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference witnessed broad participation from Arab and foreign countries, alongside governmental and non-governmental figures, experts, and researchers in water-related fields. It also hosted the 11th Meeting on Precision Irrigation of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his opening speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that water issues are not merely a service sector concern, but a national imperative with profound implications across all areas of life. He called for unified national efforts and clear accountability to safeguard this vital resource through innovation and technology-driven solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discuss critical issues related to precision irrigation and the application of modern technologies in water resource management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Encourage scientific research and innovation in water technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
