






The Department of Media at the College of Arts, Wasit University
held its second international scientific conference titled “Media and Societal Peace: Reality and Challenges,” with the attendance of the university president, Professor Dr. Abbas Lutfah Knaheer Al-Aqabi, his scientific assistant, Professor Dr. Sabih Lutfah Al-Zubaidi, the college dean, Professor Dr. Saad Dahes Nasser Al-Hassani, along with a number of college deans, academics, researchers, department heads, faculty members, and students.
The conference, which included the participation of 36 scientific papers, aimed to highlight the relationship between media and societal peace, discuss the ethical and professional challenges facing media professionals, and provide a platform for exchanging experiences between academics and researchers. It also sought to review the latest research on the role of media in promoting a culture of peace and enhancing societal dialogue.
In his opening speech, the university president, Professor Dr. Abbas Lutfah Al-Aqabi, emphasized the importance of media in building societal peace and enhancing social cohesion, pointing to the challenges faced by media in light of modern societal transformations.
In his speech, the college dean, Professor Dr. Saad Dahes Al-Hassani, clarified the role of academic institutions in providing scientific outputs that contribute to addressing current challenges and enhancing societal stability.
The Head of the Media Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Maytham Faleh Al-Moussawi, delivered a speech in which he addressed the academic efforts to enhance the understanding of the relationship between media and societal peace, emphasizing the importance of research in addressing pressing issues.
The conference included discussion sessions distributed across four main themes: journalism, public relations, radio and television, and digital media. These sessions focused on the role of media in spreading a culture of peace and enhancing societal dialogue, in addition to discussing the ethical and professional challenges facing the media.
The conference concluded with recommendations including a call to organize media work according to principles that preserve national constants, develop media strategies to support societal peace, and enhance cooperation between the media and academic institutions to safeguard society from extremist ideas. Additionally, there was a call for the development of educational programs focused on the role of media in crisis management and intensifying research efforts to address current challenges.
