











Wasit University Organizes Competition for Best PhD Dissertation Supporting Sustainable Development Goals
In alignment with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and as part of its ongoing efforts to promote impactful research that serves the community and advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the College of Science at the University of Wasit held a competition to select the best PhD dissertation for the academic year 2024–2025.
The event was attended by the esteemed President of Wasit University, Prof. Dr. Abbas Lafta, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Subaih Lafta, the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Faeq Jameel Hassan, along with faculty members from the college.
PhD candidate Haider Majid Tu’mah won first place for his dissertation titled:
“Measuring Water Quality Parameters of the Tigris River in Wasit Governorate – Iraq by the Utility of Satellite Images”,
supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Moatasem Ibrahim Al-Badri.
This dissertation directly contributes to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation by employing advanced satellite imaging technologies to monitor and assess water quality in a sustainable and efficient manner. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to fostering applied scientific research that addresses environmental challenges and benefits the broader community.
