As part of its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—the University of Wasit, represented by the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, held a virtual meeting with Tambov State University, Russia, with the aim of signing a memorandum of understanding for scientific and academic collaboration.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Uqabi, President of the University of Wasit, and attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Ali Al-Saeedi, Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, along with members of the college council and directors of the Quality Assurance and Media Departments. From the Russian side, the meeting was joined by several prominent academic figures, including Professor Kromov Yuri Yurevich, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Computer Science; Professor Eliseev Alexey, Head of the Science Department; Governor Dmitry Balakov; Professor Nanogal Vanotch; and Assistant Professor Minin Yuri.

The two sides discussed a number of key areas for collaboration, including:

Establishing a Russian Language Center at the College of Arts at the University of Wasit to promote cultural and linguistic exchange.

Joint scientific publishing and co-editing of academic journals.

Joint academic supervision of postgraduate theses (Master’s and Ph.D.).

Implementation of both short- and long-term student exchange programs and hosting visiting professors for specialized lectures.

Offering reciprocal scholarships for postgraduate study programs.

The meeting also explored prospects for future cooperation, including:

Joint research projects in fields such as artificial intelligence and data science.

Organizing joint scientific conferences and workshops.

Sharing expertise in quality assurance and academic accreditation.

Developing and modernizing academic curricula in line with international standards.

Launching joint postgraduate programs (Master’s and Ph.D.).

Collaboration in technical training and development for students and graduates of scientific and technological fields.

This meeting reflects the University of Wasit’s strategic policy of promoting international openness and expanding partnerships with reputable global universities to enhance the quality of higher education and scientific research.
