Wasit University’s School of Management and Economics discussed the tagged master’s thesis (analysis and measurement of the impact of government spending on poverty indicators in Iraq for 2004-2018)

The research aims to analyze and measure the effects of public spending policy on poverty trends and to clarify the most important mechanisms used, especially in Iraq after 2003, and what are its most important economic and social effects, as well as to create a relationship between government spending policies and poverty indicators using quantitative methods.

The study concluded that although poverty in Iraq has gradually fallen from 40 percent in 2005 to a 2012 low of 18.9 percent due to public employment and high government spending due to rising public revenues, it has rising closely to 24.2 percent in 2019, indicating a lack of sustained policies and steps to reduce poverty rates.

The letter recommended the need to organize the social protection network and raise an accurate database of it to go to its beneficiaries and increase the amounts of protection, spending on health in a scientific and controlled manner and away from waste and corruption by developing a comprehensive plan for all the contradictions in this sector and completing all its joints in order to carry out its duties in the numbers of health citizens able to work and produce and reduce its spending on health.

Increase spending on education in scientific and applied aspects and continuous training to build an educated generation that suits its precious needs and has a position and need in the labor market.
