The College of Engineering at Wasit University recently hosted a series of in-depth discussions on master’s theses in the field of Water and Environmental Engineering, with the participation of specialized academic committees composed of experts and faculty members in water and environmental sciences. These discussions addressed critical environmental issues facing Iraq and the region, with a strong focus on aligning research outcomes with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The presented theses focused notably on SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through studies on water resource management, wastewater treatment, and combating water pollution. Some of the research also explored the impact of climate change on aquatic ecosystems, contributing to SDG 13 (Climate Action). Additionally, other projects examined the connection between environmental management and natural resources, aligning with SDG 15 (Life on Land).

The participating experts commended the scientific depth of the students’ work and the supervisors’ guidance in steering the research towards implementable and sustainable solutions tailored to local environmental contexts. These discussions reflected a clear commitment to producing knowledge that is not only academically rigorous but also practically applicable.

This academic event underscores the University of Wasit’s growing role in supporting applied scientific research and its dedication to integrating higher education with sustainable development priorities. It reaffirms the institution’s mission to actively contribute to addressing environmental challenges and shaping a more sustainable future.
