In a distinguished scientific achievement aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, two faculty members from Wasit University’s College of Science were awarded two gold medals at the INTARG 2025 International Invention and Innovation Fair, held in Katowice, Poland, from June 2–5, 2025, under the patronage of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA).

The award-winning participation came through two patents in the field of nanomaterial production for the treatment of acne and cutaneous leishmaniasis, addressing real-world health challenges through applied scientific innovation.

The researchers — Prof. Dr. Abdulsada Abdulabbas Rahi Al-Ghunaimawi and Asst. Prof. Dr. Majda Abdulkhaliq Ali Al-Rubaie — represented both Iraq and Wasit University as the only Arab participants in the event, which hosted representatives from more than 20 European and Asian countries. The presence of the Iraqi flag and the Wasit University emblem during the conference symbolized a proud moment of international recognition.

This accomplishment supports several SDGs:

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by contributing novel treatments for prevalent skin diseases;

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting research-driven solutions through nanotechnology;

SDG 4: Quality Education, through high-level research and innovation within the academic sphere;

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, via active engagement in global scientific networks.

The participation underscores the elevated status of Iraqi scientific expertise and reinforces Wasit University’s role as a hub for applied, socially impactful research, committed to improving community well-being through innovation.
