As part of its vision to advance medical education and improve learning outcomes, the College of Medicine at Wasit University has implemented modern assessment systems by introducing the Proficiency Exam—an advanced evaluation method aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills and raising their professional performance levels. This initiative aligns with the college’s broader approach to adopting quality-driven and innovative teaching practices, contributing to the preparation of well-qualified medical professionals equipped for today’s healthcare challenges.

Despite facing challenges such as increased student enrollment and the need for a large number of evaluators, the college successfully conducted the exam across all academic stages—from first to fourth year. Students underwent practical assessments covering five to six core skills per level, during which they demonstrated high performance and positive engagement, reflecting the effectiveness of their clinical training.

The teaching staff played a vital role in this initiative through wide participation, ensuring comprehensive and reliable evaluations. The exams were also attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Naseer Kadhim Al-Maliki, and the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Ensaf, in a clear indication of the college leadership’s support for adopting modern educational methodologies.

This effort underscores the college’s commitment to fostering a stimulating learning environment focused on developing students’ practical competencies—an approach that ultimately contributes to improving the quality of healthcare services and strengthening graduates’ readiness to enter the professional medical field with confidence and responsibility.
