A master’s thesis in the College of Education for Human Sciences discusses the variation of tenses in the Holy Qur’an
The College of Education for Human Sciences at Wasit University discussed a master’s thesis in the English language (on the variation of tenses in the Holy Qur’an, a pragmatic, grammatical study).
The study presented by the student (Ali Harith Washi) aimed to investigate the variation of tenses in the Holy Qur’an from the perspective of grammar and pragmatics. The Holy Qur’an, as a sacred text known for its linguistic complexity and profound rhetorical features, plays a crucial role in conveying the intended meanings and patterns of discourse within its verses.
This study seeks to explore the grammatical and pragmatic aspects of this contrast and to examine the overlap between the use of tenses, pragmatic functions, and sentence structures.
It showed that the results provide valuable insights about the overlap between grammar and pragmatics and clarify the roles of tense difference in conveying meaning, maintaining coherence and shaping the rhetorical structure of the Holy Quran.
And I concluded that the results of the pragmatic analysis of the discursive types reveal that these tenses consist of different types of meanings such as assertive, directive, marketing, expressive, etc.
