The idea of establishing the College of Agriculture at Wasit University began since the founding of the university on 1/13/2003, and the efforts and studies made by the university presidency continued regarding the establishment of this college. Determining the location of the college was the most important factor that led to the delay in obtaining approvals to establish the college. The committees formed by Wasit University made great efforts to complete the studies to establish this college, and with the support of Professor Dr. Jawad Matar Al-Moussawi, President of Wasit University, these efforts were crowned by obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to establish the College of Agriculture on 5/15/2008, represented by two scientific departments, which are:
A historical overview of the establishment and development of the college
- Department of Food and Animal Production
- Department of Soil and Irrigation Technology
After that, efforts continued to develop the college, where two scientific departments were created:
- Field Crops Department
- Plant Protection Department
The efforts culminated in the academic year 2017-2018 with the establishment of postgraduate studies (Master’s) in the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources.

Vision
The College of Agriculture seeks to advance and excel in teaching agricultural sciences and their applications, to prepare specialized and qualified agricultural cadres to keep pace with the requirements of development plans and the needs of the labor market, and for the College to become among the best colleges of agriculture at the local and Arab levels.

The mission of the College of Agriculture is to prepare distinguished agricultural staff, conduct research and studies, adopt modern knowledge, and use and disseminate technology in advanced agricultural fields, with the aim of serving and developing agricultural services and projects in society.
Goals
- Preparing qualified personnel in various agricultural specializations who can contribute to the development of agriculture in its various fields, by offering educational programs and curricula to students, and raising their academic level within the framework of the continuous development process of the education system in its various aspects.
- Providing training services to all agricultural sectors, leading to the spread of environmental awareness and agricultural culture among workers in agricultural fields, and making the college a distinguished source of expertise in all fields related to agricultural production.
- Interacting with the agricultural environments from which it derives the subjects of its studies and research, and to which the results of those agricultural studies and research are returned, in order to arrive at solutions to development problems in agricultural projects, activities and programmes based on the scientific method of research and study.
- Benefiting from developments in the field of technology, tools and machinery, and providing students with the necessary skills to enable them to employ these developments in developing agricultural aspects and increasing the efficiency of agricultural work elements.
- Encouraging scientific research through multidisciplinary research groups, stimulating and involving the agricultural production sectors, the private sector, and civil society organizations in funding and supporting scientific research projects, benefiting from their outputs and results, and cooperating closely with national, Arab, and regional research centers
