In temperatures exceeding 52°C, the President of Wasit University, Prof. Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Uqabi, and the Administrative Vice President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Shihab Ahmed, conducted direct field supervision of a comprehensive campus cleaning and maintenance campaign.
This initiative, led by the university’s Services Division, is not just about preserving aesthetics — it reflects a deeper commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
✅ SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
✅ SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
✅ SDG 13: Climate Action
Despite the harsh weather, service teams continued for the second consecutive day to clean green spaces, campus walkways, and ensure fire safety and environmental protection protocols are in place during the summer break.
"This effort showcases our university’s commitment to field-based leadership and shared responsibility," said President Al-Uqabi. He praised the resilience and dedication of the workers, emphasizing that such actions go beyond routine duties and speak to a culture of sustainability and care.
This campaign reinforces Wasit University’s position as a higher education institution that leads by example, prioritizing a healthy academic environment and environmental awareness, even under extreme conditions.
Sustainability starts with action — and action starts on the ground.
