Wasit University doctoral thesis entitled "The punishment of exile in the ancient Near East", studied the thesis prepared by the student Amjad Jamil Hammoud the historical roots of exile and distance from the homeland in the original civilizations of the ancient Middle East in Iraq, Egypt, Syria, at the haythen and in ancient Iran and in accordance with the methodology followed by researchers in the beginning of the study of Eastern civilizations at the beginning of historical times mid-3000 BC. The thesis showed that the existence of the word exile or words indicating punitive expulsion in all ancient languages confirms the existence of the word exile or words indicating punitive expulsion in all ancient languages. The punishment was one of the punishments in the civilizations mentioned, and the punishment of exile was imposed on the outside of social norms of incest or the disabled of their parents and trespassers on the royal court and the king.
