Wasit University College of Medicine Organizes Awareness Campaign on Renewable Energy to Promote Sustainability and Social Responsibility

Under the patronage of the Dean of Wasit University College of Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Naseer Kadhem Al-Maliki, the Student Activities Division, the Volunteer Work Unit, and the Cultural Activities Unit, in cooperation with the College Registration Division, organized a volunteer awareness campaign on renewable energy.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of renewable energy, methods of its efficient use, and how to benefit from natural energy sources such as solar, wind, and water energy. These clean and sustainable alternatives reduce dependence on oil, gas, and coal, which are finite resources and major contributors to environmental pollution.

As part of the campaign, informational brochures were distributed to students and staff, containing guidance on the importance of transitioning to renewable energy and its role in protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development.

This initiative is part of the purposeful activities the College of Medicine implements to enhance environmental awareness and social responsibility among students, while contributing to the university’s national and international standing by integrating sustainability initiatives within the academic environment.

The campaign aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, by raising awareness of renewable energy sources and their use.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, through promoting sustainable practices within the university community.

SDG 13: Climate Action, by educating about reducing emissions and the environmental impact of traditional energy sources.

SDG 4: Quality Education, by incorporating environmental awareness and sustainability into educational and awareness activities for students.
