Wasit University has achieved a notable milestone in the QS Arab University Rankings 2025, placing in the 181–190 category among Arab universities. This accomplishment reflects the university’s continuous improvement in academic and research performance and its commitment to regional excellence and leadership.
During the Arab Universities Forum hosted by Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, Prof. Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi, President of Wasit University, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Sibeh Lafta Al-Zubaidi, Assistant for Scientific Affairs, emphasized that this achievement is the result of sustained efforts to enhance the educational environment and develop the competencies of faculty and researchers.
Prof. Dr. Al-Aqabi highlighted that the accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Dr. Na’eem Al-Aboudi, and the Ministry’s strategic guidance to strengthen the position of Iraqi universities in global rankings. The university continues to implement a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at improving its international ranking, promoting academic sustainability, and fostering innovation in education and research.
He also noted that Wasit University is actively pursuing initiatives aligned with QS sustainability indicators, enhancing its academic presence regionally and internationally and demonstrating its commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in education, research, and community service.
In total, 36 Iraqi universities achieved progress in the QS Arab University Rankings 2025, including Wasit, Mustansiriyah, Mosul, Tikrit, Al-Muthanna, and Babylon universities, reflecting the notable advancement of Iraq’s higher education system and its growing regional and international impact.
The QS Arab Rankings evaluate higher education institutions based on a set of rigorous indicators, including academic reputation, research quality, teaching quality, internationalization, and graduate employability.
