President of Wasit University Inspects College of Medicine Laboratories and Emphasizes Compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Standards

The President of Wasit University, Prof. Abbas Al-Aqabi, conducted an inspection visit to the laboratories of the College of Medicine, in the presence of the Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance, Asst. Prof. Lama Abdul-Manaf Rahim. The visit comes within the framework of continuous field follow-up aimed at advancing educational infrastructure and ensuring the quality of scientific laboratories.

During the tour, the University President reviewed the current status of the laboratories in terms of equipment, scientific instruments, and operational mechanisms used in practical classes and clinical training. He also assessed the level of compliance with safety and biosafety procedures. Prof. Al-Aqabi stressed the importance of implementing Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in accordance with internationally recognized standards, as this ensures the accuracy of results, safeguards students and staff, and enhances the quality of medical education and scientific research.

He further emphasized the necessity of providing an integrated laboratory environment that adheres to international standards in organization, risk management, equipment maintenance, and laboratory documentation, noting that compliance with GLP requirements constitutes a key component of academic and institutional accreditation.

For her part, Asst. Prof. Luma Abdul-Manaf Raheem explained that the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance is actively monitoring and documenting the implementation of GLP standards within approved quality indicators. This is achieved through performance evaluation, updating standard operating procedures, and promoting a culture of quality among academic and technical staff, in line with global quality requirements.

The visit concluded with a field tour of several laboratories at the College of Medicine, during which a number of developmental needs were identified and recommendations were proposed to improve laboratory performance and enhance compliance with Good Laboratory Practice standards in accordance with international best practices.
