Under the patronage of the President of Wasit University, Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Aqabi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hani Mohsen Khalif, the Human Rights Unit at the College of Dentistry held a scientific workshop on 4/1/2026 entitled The Role of Veterinary Medicine and Government Authorities in Preventing the Risks of Stray Dogs. The workshop was delivered by (Dr. Ali Hassan Mujbil, Assistant Lecturer Noor Majid, Assistant Lecturer Hassan Suwaih).
The workshop addressed a widespread problem in several Iraqi provinces, represented by the increasing number of stray dogs and the direct threat they pose to public safety, in light of weak governmental regulation to control this phenomenon. The speakers highlighted the vital role of veterinary medicine and government authorities in reducing these risks through control programs, vaccination campaigns, and health regulation.
The workshop also discussed preventive and treatment procedures that should be followed in the event of exposure to stray dog bites, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and rapid intervention to reduce health complications and protect lives .
