The Department of Architecture at Wasit University took part in the international workshop “Protection of Informal Public Spaces,” held in Amman within the DAAD Transformation Program and organized in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University (Germany) and the German Jordanian University (GJU). The University’s delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Sabeeh Lafta Farhan, accompanied by four master’s students from the department.
The workshop focused on studying and analyzing informal public spaces in cities and understanding their social, spatial, and historical dimensions, with the aim of developing sustainable approaches for preserving and integrating them within contemporary urban contexts.
The participation holds particular significance for Wasit University’s position in global university rankings, as engagement in international academic workshops—especially those organized by institutions such as DAAD and RWTH Aachen—enhances indicators related to:
• International collaboration (International Outlook)
• Student mobility and international learning environments
• Research visibility and global partnerships
• Academic reputation within architectural and urban studies
Such activities contribute to strengthening the University’s profile in international classification frameworks by demonstrating active global engagement, joint academic projects, and participation in internationally recognized training programs.
This involvement reflects the University’s commitment to expanding its international partnerships and enriching the academic and research skills of its students within advanced global environments.
