Introduction

The Legal Affairs Department was established in April 2005. It is considered one of the main administrative departments within the University Presidency. The department was created in response to the need to regulate the legal and administrative aspects accompanying the expansion of university institutions and the increasing diversity of their academic and administrative activities. With the development of higher education in Iraq, legal units and departments were established within university presidencies to provide legal advice, follow up judicial cases, organize contracts, protect the rights of the university and its members, and ensure the implementation of applicable laws, regulations, and instructions.

The department has gradually developed its organizational structure, and its responsibilities have expanded to include the formation of investigative committees, auditing and reviewing contracts and agreements, managing university property affairs, and representing the university before courts and official authorities.

The Legal Affairs Department is affiliated with the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, ensuring the independence and neutrality of legal opinions in performing its duties.

To provide legal consultations and services efficiently and transparently and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations in support of achieving the university's objectives.
