Wasit University’s Contribution to Promoting Human Rights (SDG 16)

In line with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, the Presidency of Wasit University, through its Human Rights Division, organized the First Scientific Conference on Human Rights under the theme “Human Rights as a Pathway to the Advancement of Nations”, with the participation of several academic colleges.

The conference reflects Wasit University’s strategic role in promoting human rights awareness, strengthening institutional governance, and fostering social justice through academic research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The event featured the presentation of 72 peer-reviewed scientific papers addressing key issues such as the role of higher education institutions in disseminating human rights culture, contemporary challenges to the implementation of human rights principles, and policy-oriented recommendations aimed at enhancing the university’s societal impact.

This initiative represents a significant contribution to Wasit University’s performance in international ranking systems, particularly THE Impact Rankings, by supporting key indicators related to:

_Research aligned with public policy and human rights.

_Institutional partnerships and community engagement.

_Governance, ethics, and human dignity.

_Sustainable social impact.
